The Bills have an strong affinity for players from Florida State, with five on the current roster along, but he's the first player the Bills have ever drafted from Florida Atlantic.
2) He's been coached like Jim Kelly.
In 2010 and 2011, Johnson played for legendary college football coach Howard Schnellenberger, who retired in 2011. Among his many career highlights, Schnellenberger coached at the University of Miami from 1979-84, when a certain well-known Buffalo Bill, Jim Kelly, was his quarterback at the U.
3) He has a big wingspan.
It's fitting that he played for the Owls, because Johnson's wingspan stretches wider than most. His 34 1/8th arm length is big for a 6-foot-3 linebacker, noted as one of his greatest strengths by many draftniks.
4) He was sought after out of high school.
Johnson was a hot commodity coming out of North Miami Senior High School, receiving scholarship offers from FAU, Hofstra, Middle Tennessee State, Colorado State, and Alabama State. He opted to stay close to his hometown of Miami with his choice of Florida Atlantic.
5) He had a busy senior year.
Johnson was a man on-the-go 2013, seeing action in every game as a linebacker, on the defensive line, and on nearly every special teams unit. He locked up 41 tackles (including a season high nine tackles at Auburn) and 7.5 tackles for a loss of 25 yards on the season. He also blocked a punt that allowed for a score against NWSU and was named Florida Atlantic football's Iron Man of the Year.
