The Bills had to add reinforcements at cornerback and offensive tackle after placing and Erik Pears on injured reserve Tuesday. On Wednesday the club signed CB Crezdon Butler and OT Thomas Welch to the 53-man roster.
Butler joins the Bills from the Arizona Cardinals' practice squad. He spent a portion of this season on the 53-man roster of the Cardinals and Washington Redskins. The 6-1, 191-pound Clemson product entered the NFL as a fifth-round (164th overall) draft choice of Pittsburgh in 2010. He has appeared in eight career games.
Welch comes to Buffalo after being released by Philadelphia prior to the 2012 season. The 6-7, 310-pound Vanderbilt product entered the NFL as a seventh-round (208th overall) draft choice of New England in 2010. He spent the 2010 season on the Minnesota practice squad before being elevated to the Vikings' 53-man roster. In 2011, Welch appeared in eight games with St. Louis (five games) and New England (three games), making one start with the Patriots.
