With four vacant spots on their 2010 practice squad, the Bills added two more players to the unit Monday, signing WR Paul Hubbard and LB John Russell.
Hubbard was released by the Oakland Raiders in the league roster cut to 75 on August 31. A former sixth-round pick of the Cleveland Browns, Hubbard (6'2" 225) spent the 2008 season on the Browns practice squad before he was signed to the Raiders practice squad in 2009.
Now entering his third year of practice squad duty, the Bills are confident there is still upside to the wideout with prototype size, good speed and movement skills for a player of his build.
Russell (6'4" 280), meanwhile was just waived over the weekend when final cuts were made by the Kansas City Chiefs Sept. 4. The Wake Forest product is making the transition from college defensive tackle to outside linebacker.
A productive player for the Demon Deacons that's instinctive and good with his hands, Russell appeared in 51 games (29 starts) at Wake Forest, recording 137 tackles, 19.0 tackles for loss, 10.5 sacks, an interception, a pass break up, two fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles.
He was originally signed as an undrafted rookie free agent this past spring by the Green Bay Packers.
Buffalo now has just two open spots remaining on their eight-man practice squad. They currently have a running back, a fullback, an offensive lineman, two wide receivers and an outside linebacker.
