The Buffalo Bills were already stocked with a healthy total of nine draft choices heading into the 2012 NFL draft. Now they've been awarded a 10th draft choice after compensatory draft picks were handed out at the league meetings in Palm Beach, Florida Monday.
Buffalobills.com has learned that the Bills were awarded one compensatory pick at the end of round seven. At 251st overall, it's just two picks removed from the end of the draft. It's the 26th compensatory pick awarded to the team since they were first distributed in 1994.
Buffalo now has a pair of draft choices in the fourth round, fifth round and seventh round this spring in addition to their single selections in rounds one, two, three and six.
To qualify for a compensatory pick a team must lose more or better compensatory free agents than it acquires in the previous year. The number of picks a team receives equals the net loss of compensatory free agents up to a maximum of four.
