Heading into the final month and a half of the regular season the Bills are trying to find a productive answer to their return game. Ranked 25th in punt return average and 31st in kick return average, Buffalo re-signed Marcus Thigpen Wednesday.
Thigpen had been with the club at the start of the season serving as the team's primary punt returner in the first four games. He averaged just 5.2 yards a return with a long of 14 yards. He did rotate in on kick return where he managed just 9.7 yards on three attempts.
A combination of Boom Herron and Denarius Moore have largely handled the kick return duties, while Leodis McKelvin was the primary punt returner the last three games.
McKelvin had problems in last Monday's game against New England, fumbling away a third quarter punt return that led to a New England field goal and muffed another in the fourth quarter, but recovered. He has averaged only three yards on seven return opportunities.
Bills add OL GroyBuffalo also added guard Ryan Groy to the 53-man roster Wednesday. Groy was last with the New England Patriots before he was released Oct. 1st.
Groy (6-5, 314) originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with Chicago in 2014. He has familiarity with offensive line coach Aaron Kromer having worked under him with the Bears.
To make room for Thigpen and Groy on the roster the Bills released RB Boom Herron and WR Denarius Moore.
