ORCHARD PARK, NY – The Buffalo Bills announced that the team has claimed and was awarded TE Michael Matthews off waivers from the Detroit Lions.
Matthews has appeared in 39 career games with 10 starts and has caught eight passes for 54 yards. The 6-4 270-pound Georgia Tech product originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the New York Giants in 2007 before being traded to the New England Patriots on September 5, 2009. He was released by New England on October 20, 2009 and signed with Detroit on December 15.
