When the Bills signed Mario Williams early on in free agency, it was thought that Buffalo's efforts in addressing their pass rush were over until the NFL draft. That apparently is not the case as the club is hosting free agent defensive end Mark Anderson.
Anderson arrived in Buffalo Tuesday evening and is meeting with members of the Bills coaching staff. He's scheduled to spend the night in Buffalo and visit One Bills Drive on Wednesday.
At 6'4" and 255 pounds Williams played for New England last season, posted 10 sacks in what initially was a rotational role before fellow teammate Andre Carter was lost for the season with a knee injury. Set to turn 29 in May, Anderson's 2011 season was his most productive since his 12-sack season as a rookie with Chicago in 2006.
A member of the 2006 draft class with Kyle Williams and Mario Williams, Anderson is also a former teammate of Buffalo's newest pass rusher after playing for Houston in 2010 where he had four sacks in 12 games. Anderson is a former fifth-round pick of the Chicago Bears and has appeared in two Super Bowls, including Super Bowl XLVI this past season with the Patriots.
Anderson has already had free agent visits with Miami and Tennessee. The Titans have since signed free agent pass rusher Kamerion Wimbley. Jacksonville has also reportedly expressed interest despite re-signing DE Jeremy Mincey last week. Reports out of New England indicate that the Patriots would like to re-sign Anderson if possible, though they signed free agent DE Trevor Scott on Monday.
