The Bills have said more than once that their free agent shopping season will go all the way up to training camp. That was evident Tuesday when Buffalo played host to a pair of free agent offensive linemen.
San Diego free agent guard Tyronne Green and Pittsburgh free agent center/guard Doug Legursky both toured the facilities at One Bills Drive and met members of the offensive coaching staff Tuesday.
Green, 27, spent the first four seasons of his career with the Chargers after San Diego made him a fourth-round draft choice in 2009. He earned a starting job in 2012 at guard for San Diego making 13 starts last season. He's made all 28 of his career starts in his last three seasons.
An unrestricted free agent this offseason, Green signed on May 13th with the New England Patriots, but was released just four days ago (May 31st).
A slightly undersized guard with long arms, Green has shown the athleticism to stay on blocks and mirror defenders in pass protection. Considered by scouts in the league to be a player that is still improving Green (6'2" 316) could be a viable consideration for Buffalo.
Buffalo also hosted Legursky, 26, Tuesday. Entering his fifth NFL season, Legursky 6'1" 315, has served as primarily a spot starter at both center and guard for the Steelers the past four seasons. He saw the most action in 2011 when injuries crippled the Pittsburgh offensive line. Legursky made 10 starts that year.
With 50 appearances in his career, Legursky has taken advantage of his low center of gravity and powerful build to stand his ground while also relying on technique to win battles on the line. There are reports that other teams are interested in Legursky including Denver, Kansas City, the Giants and Philadelphia.
After enduring the free agent losses of guards Andy Levitre and Chad Rinehart, Buffalo currently has a host of young, but unproven talent at the guard position aside from two-year starter Kraig Urbik.
Knowing Levitre and Rinehart made a combined 63 starts over the past three seasons for the Bills it makes sense that Buffalo is looking to possibly add experience at the position.
