Bills S Byrd out against Patriots

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) - Buffalo Bills safety Jairus Byrd has been listed as inactive for the team's season opener against New England.

The two-time Pro Bowl selection has been bothered by a foot injury and has also had limited practice time. Byrd missed most of the offseason before signing his franchise tender on Aug. 20.

Buffalo's defensive backfield is already missing starting cornerback Stephon Gilmore, who will miss the first month of the season with a broken left wrist.

For the Patriots, tight end Rob Gronkowski (back/forearm) was inactive and did not make the trip to Buffalo. Also listed out for Sunday's game was running back/returner Leon Washington, who re-signed with New England a day earlier.
