Kicker Dan Carpenter, CB Leodis McKelvin and DE Mario Williams will begin training camp on the sidelines. The three players were assigned to the Active/Non-Football Injury list Thursday.
The NFI designation covers injuries sustained away from football-related activities. The club did not disclose the nature of the injuries sustained by the three veteran players.
Head coach Rex Ryan speaks after the team's first practice Friday morning and may address how long each of the players will be out.
The Active/NFI allows a player to return to practice as soon as they are medically cleared to participate.
Manhertz, Thomas on Active/PUP
Two other players will also be sidelined at the outset of camp. First-year TE Chris Manhertz and rookie CB Cam Thomas were both put on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list.
Active PUP means that the players are not fit to practice right now. Those players however, can have that designation removed and begin practicing any time the medical and athletic training staff believe the players are healthy to do so.
