Chan Gailey: "I have to find the answers"

**

Head Coach Chan Gailey**

Press Conference – October 7, 2012

San Francisco 49ers vs. Buffalo Bills

Opening comments:

"Obviously, there's something I'm not doing correctly with this football team in the second half. Two games in a row after halftime, we've played extremely poor and that's as nice as you can put it. Obviously, the turnover before the half really hurt and the turnover where we could've gone down and made it 24-10 really hurt. We're not playing as physical as we should and we're not doing the things we need to do."

In the second half, and considering the score was 45-3, do you feel like they gave up?

"No, I don't think our team gives up. They hurt and they get rattled. Part of my responsibility is to not let them get rattled. When things start going bad, you have to be strong mentally. I've got to find a way to keep our team up."

How good are the 49ers?

"They're a strong football team. They are extremely strong physically and in all phases of the game."

What do you say to the guys before you come out and address us?

"I basically say the same things to them that I say to you. I tell them that I don't have any answers today, but I have to find the answers. We've done it in the past."

How much are you letting them off the hook when you say it's your fault?

"It's not entirely my fault, but it starts with me. That's my responsibility. I understand that. When you take this job, you understand that it's your responsibility. We're playing good in the first half, but we're not playing good in the second half. We played okay in the first half, I shouldn't say good. It should've been 10-3 at the half. That's what it should've been. We're not doing things in the second half that we need to do. Something has to change."

How drastic are the changes going to be in time for the game against Arizona?

"I don't know. That's what I have to see. I don't know what I'm going to do. I've never been here before, so I'm in new territory."

How did [RB] Fred [Jackson] and [RB] C.J. [Spiller] feel after the game?

"I think they came out of this one pretty good. So we should be able to take the next step next week. Until they get back after playing a few weeks and feel comfortable playing with those injuries, it's a little bit of an issue. It seemed like we ran the football with two-and-three yard gains, not four, five or six yards. And it felt like that put us behind the sticks. That's what it felt like and I have to watch film to figure it out."
