COACH DICK JAURON
Practice – August 22, 2007
I suspect the place to start today is just to thank the people at St. John Fisher and our fans for the great support we've had this training camp. It's been outstanding. We talked a little bit last night about what a great facility it is for us and then obviously the support we get for our practices but it's been good. It's been a long camp. We needed it and we still need more. We need a good deal of work. We're anxious to get back now to our facility and we look forward to the next two games.
On Sam Aiken's injury…
Sam's I believe was a hip flexor. We'll just have to see where that goes. Bud (Carpenter) was not real optimistic about this Friday night but I believe it was a hip flexor.
On if he thinks Angelo Crowell has a chance to play Friday…
Yes I do. We're optimistic there.
On what attracted the team to sign Al Wallace…
We have the need obviously right now and then Al's pretty healthy for a veteran player that's been in the league. That's the other part of it; he is a veteran, he knows how to in this league. He's been pretty productive and then I did know him in Jacksonville. We had him in Jacksonville and I always liked him. He's a hard worker, good guy, believe he'll fit in with us and give us great effort.
On how long the starters will play Friday night…
They'll go at least a half. At least a half and maybe into the second but maybe not. We just need to get better. We need to get more consistent everywhere.
On if Al Wallace will play Friday…
We plan to play him sporadically obviously we don't want to over expose him. Let him rush the passer a little bit. Clearly he hasn't been in training camp but he's a guy that's always been a professional in terms of taking care of himself. We're not worried that he'll get fatigued unless we do overplay him a number of plays in a row.
On if there are any similarities between this defense and Carolina's…
Well no, but there's always similarities in pass rushing. That's the situation we'll try to put him in. We're not going to try to fit him into our scheme yet because even though there will be similarities the terminology will be different. He hasn't had time to practice. It'll mostly be pass rush.
On if Craig Nall will play this week…
We haven't really decided that. We know that Trent (Edwards) needs to see every snap he can get and JP's going to play at least a half and maybe into the third but at least certainly a half. We'll just have to see with Craig.
On if Al Wallace will learn both the right and defensive end spots…
He'll learn both sides. I think even in this brief practice today he was on both sides. They were pass rush situations but he was lined up both places.
