Bills DL Spencer Johnson missed a second straight day of practice Thursday, but head coach Chan Gailey isn't waiting to see what transpires with the veteran on Friday. He's declared him out for Sunday's game in San Francisco.
"He's going to be out," said Gailey following Thursday's practice. "He played with the ankle, but it became a lot worse Monday during the day and it's kind of on par with the other two guys to be honest with you."
Gailey was referring to his two offensive linemen that also sustained ankle injuries in the New England game last Sunday. Cordy Glenn and Kraig Urbik both were hobbling around in immobilizer boots this week and are expected to miss at least two games.
When asked if Johnson could be out two weeks much like Glenn and Urbik Buffalo's head coach said it could very well be the case.
Johnson's absence will alter Buffalo's defensive line rotation on the interior leaving the Bills with only Alex Carrington as a reserve defensive tackle on the depth chart. It could possibly make Mario Williams a consideration to move inside to defensive tackle in obvious passing situations.
Byrd practicesBills safety Jairus Byrd returned to practice Thursday after missing Wednesday's session with a hip injury suffered last week.
"He was limited, but he moved around pretty well," said Gailey. "All indications are he'll play. Unless there's a setback between now and then he'll be fine."
