After another exciting weekend of high school football in Western New York, the Buffalo Bills and ADPRO Sports are thrilled to recognize John Swiniuch of East Aurora/Holland and John Dowd of Spencerport, as the Buffalo and Rochester Coaches of the Week.
As the Buffalo Region Coach of the Week, John Swiniuch led his squad to a shutout victory over the Lake Shore Eagles on Friday, Sept. 13. The East Aurora/Holland Blue Devils came out strong, capping a 50-yard drive in the first quarter with a one-yard touchdown run by Shane MacSwan. Keeping things on the ground, the Blue Devils secured their next score in the game's third quarter with a five-yard scoring run by TJ Marsh. The trip to the end zone was followed up by a MacSwan two-point conversion to put the Blue Devils up 14-0. Running back Jack Rogers closed out the day with 101 yards rushing on 17 carries.
On defense, East Aurora was stout, making it difficult for the Eagles to get anything going offensively. Leading the way for the team was Jonathan Staniszewski, who had eight tackles and an interception. With the win, the Blue Devils advanced to 2-0 on the season – the team's best start since 2015. Next up, East Aurora will take on Cheektowaga at home.
John Dowd, the Rochester Region Coach of the Week, put together a successful outing against Victor last Friday. Orchestrating a 21-12 win, which was the first time Spencerport has ever defeated Victor, the Rangers advanced to 2-0 on the young campaign. Scoring on their first possession, the Rangers were able to establish an early lead and set the tone for the contest. Junior running back Khalize Beamon was credited with the first score, taking it 58 yards to the house. Victor had an answer for the touchdown, tallying one of their own on a 60-yard pass play. However, after a missed extra point, it was the Rangers on top 7-6.
Spencerport senior running back Rayshod Walker added to the lead before the half on a one-yard rushing score. Although Victor quickly responded in the third, it was the Rangers who came out with the "W." In the end, junior running back Beamon had put on an astounding performance, compiling 116yards rushing . The Rangers will be on the road this Friday, Sept. 20 to face Gates Chili.
