Less than a week after John Miller participated in his first rookie minicamp, the Bills third-round pick signed his rookie contract.
"It's an amazing feeling to be able to sign my contract and officially become a Buffalo Bill," Miller told Buffalobills.com. "It's great I get to put this behind me and focus on football and learning the plays."
The Louisville product was a player Buffalo had targeted early in the pre-draft process, bringing him in for a pre-draft visit at One Bills Drive. Among the members of the Bills 2015 draft class he might have the best chance to step in as a rookie and contribute.
"There could be some spots where guys are coming in immediately and competing for playing time," said head coach Rex Ryan. "In a case like John Miller, he's a young man that we really targeted. He's a guy that we'll put him right in the mix and see what he does. We were really impressed with him, he came in for a visit in particular and he kind of blew us away when we got him on the board and our coaches were talking to him.
"Mentally it's a big thing and a big challenge in this when you come from college to the NFL, especially as an offensive lineman. I think this young man seems to have the aptitude for it and that's going to allow his physical talents to where he can showcase, so we're excited about that."
On the heels of the rookie minicamp, Ryan revealed that Miller has been rotated in with the starting unit at guard during on the field walk through work and hasn't missed a beat.
"We got him in there and I saw him running with the first team," said Ryan. "That doesn't mean that he stays there, but he's already fitting in to where you put him out there with the ones and mentally that's pretty impressive. He goes in and it wasn't like we had to slow things down because he was in there."
"It's awesome. It makes it feel more real to be out there taking snaps with the ones," said Miller. "I definitely pride myself on being a student of the game. I'm focused on learning the game, the new techniques and the system so that way when I step on the field I don't look like a rookie." Miller is the third Bills draft choice to sign his rookie contract.
