The Buffalo Bills and ADPRO Sports are proud to once again partner to recognize some of the best coaches that Western New York has to offer through the 2022 High School Football Coach of the Week Program.
The Bills and ADPRO Sports will be awarding varsity head tackle football coaches with the Coach of the Week Award to highlight not only their team's achievements on the field but also some of the work they are doing off the field in their communities. We will announce winners from the Buffalo and Rochester Regions over the course of 11 weeks, with both region's Coach of the Year being named during the Buffalo Bills vs New England Patriots game in January of 2023 at Highmark Stadium.
Each Coach of the Week winner will receive a $1,000 grant from the Buffalo Bills and ADPRO Sports. The respective Coach of the Year winners will also receive an additional $1,000 for their programs. Winners will be selected by a panel of local high school football experts.
Buffalo Region Coach of the Week # 9
Pioneer head coach Jim Duprey has been named the week nine Buffalo Region Coach of the Week after leading his Panthers to a tense 7-6 win over Albion in the first round of the Section 6 playoffs.
Albion scored in the second quarter to take a 6-0 lead at the half. Pioneer QB Gavin Schwab tossed a 35-yard TD pass to Walker Bekiel in the third quarter to tie the score. Devin Matuszak kicked the PAT and Pioneer led 7-6. Matuszak also served as Pioneer's punter and pinned Albion inside the 20-yard line three times.
Dalton Giboo led the Panthers on the ground with 21 carries for 91 yards. Kyle Stover added 39 yards on 10 carries.Logan Hallady led a fierce defensive effort with 12 tackles. Nate Bull made 7 tackles and intercepted a pass that sealed the win late in the game. Karter Giboo made 6 tackles and recovered a fumble. Sam Platt made 6 tackles, including a QB sack.
Coach Duprey has been on staff at Pioneer since 1993. He was named the varsity head coach before the 2002 season. He led the Panthers to the Section 6 title game in 2018 and has won 5 league titles. Coach Duprey received his 100th career win in the last game of the 2022 regular season.
Duprey has taught Global History and US History at Pioneer HS since 1992.
One of coach Duprey's players, junior lineman, Luke Matthias, through his local 4-H and the Pioneer football program, raised more than $2,000 for the Batavia Veterans in honor of his uncle, an Air Force Veteran who recently passed away.
Coach Duprey has hosted Football Skilled Days for disabled children who are active with the school's Unified Athletes Program.
Rochester Region Coach of the Week # 9
Brockport High School head coach Scott Nugent has been named the week nine Rochester Coach of the Week after leading the Blue Devils to a 34-21 win over West Irondequoit in the first round of the Section 5 playoffs.
West Irondequoit led 14-0 near the end of the first half when Brockport scored on the last play of the half. QB Landon Scott tossed a 2-yard TD pass to Nate Parker to pull Brockport within 14-7 at the break. West Irondequoit took the second-half kickoff and drove for a TD and a 21-7 lead before Brockport mounted a comeback.
The Blue Devils scored 3 TDs in the third quarter to take a 28-21 lead. Scott tossed a 42-yard TD pass to Tyler Judd and a 30-yard TD pass to Parker to tie the score. Scott then ran into the end zone from 1-yard out to give Brockport their first lead. Scott completed 10 of 21 passes for 189 yards and 3 TDs in the win. He also rushed for 2 TDs. Ryan Miller rushed 17 times for 68 yards to lead the ground game. The Brockport defense intercepted 4 passes.
Nugent has been on staff at Brockport for 25 seasons. He was named the head coach in 2012.
He led Brockport to a Section 5 title in 2015 and the Blue Devils have won 4 league championships under Nugent.
Coach Nugent is incredibly committed to the families and community of Brockport. Nugent's players have helped local groups with yard work and gardening in Brockport.
Nugent teaches Phys Ed at Brockport Middle School and has been there for 25 years.
