Bills Hall of Fame QB Jim Kelly underwent 12 hours of surgery in New York City on Wednesday to address the oral cancer that had returned for a third time. His wife Jill Kelly reported late Wednesday evening that the surgery was complete.

Mt. Sinai West hospital in New York City released a statement on Kelly's surgery to WKBW-TV with the following assessment from Kelly's surgeon.

"We successfully removed Mr. Kelly's cancer from his upper jaw and lymph nodes from his neck. We then reconstructed his upper jaw. Mr. Kelly is resting comfortably post-operatively," said Dr. Mark Urken, Head and Neck Surgeon at Mount Sinai West.

Over the past couple of days, former Bills Thurman Thomas, Steve Tasker and others have shared their support of Jim via social media.

Kelly's wife indicated that he is in for a very long and "significant" recovery in the wake of the complicated procedure.
