The Bills running back situation was a precarious one heading into the weekend and the case will be the same for today's game against the Lions. Buffalo will be without both of their veteran ball carriers as LeSean McCoy and Chris Ivory are both inactive.
McCoy was not able to recover in time from a hamstring injury suffered last week to play in today's game against Detroit. Ivory aggravated a shoulder injury late in last week's game, and though he was able to practice on a limited basis this week, he too is not available for Buffalo.
That leaves Marcus Murphy and Keith Ford as Buffalo's two primary backs. Murphy has averaged 5.2 yards per carry this season in limited duty.
For Ford, this will be the first NFL regular season action of his career. Ford has spent the entire season on Buffalo's practice squad until he was elevated to the active roster this week in the wake of the injuries to Ivory and McCoy.
