The Bills officially got a welcome addition to their offensive backfield Thursday, but also lost a key piece of their defensive backfield for the season. After the league granted the Bills a three-day roster exemption on Monday, Marshawn Lynch was officially placed back on the team?s 53-man roster Thursday. However, to make room for the running back the team placed injured cornerback Leodis McKelvin on injured reserve ending his 2009 season.
McKelvin suffered a cracked bone in his right fibula during last Sunday?s game and could not return. Head coach Dick Jauron indicated this past Monday that McKelvin would be out indefinitely. Apparently the club felt the recovery for the second-year cornerback would be long enough that injured reserve was a legitimate option.
It?s a disappointing end to the season for McKelvin. Stepping into the starting lineup at right cornerback many thought the former first-round pick was poised for a breakout season, but McKelvin?s development into a premier performer will have to wait another season.
Meanwhile Lynch returns to the Bills lineup and could see up to 50 percent of the workload in the run game this Sunday in Miami.
?I see him, kind of how we envisioned going in,? said Jauron. ?He and Freddy [Jackson] kind of sharing the load to keep them both fresh on the football field so that Marshawn will probably get, I don?t know if he?ll get half the reps, but somewhere near there if he?s ready to do that. And as I said earlier, trying to keep them both out there fresh. So he?ll spell Freddy, Freddy will spell him, and we?ll move forward like we had planned.?
