First, it was a tumultuous week for Bills coaches following the dismissal of Dick Jauron. Now the ripple effects of that change are being felt at the quarterback position. Trent Edwards was benched in favor of Ryan Fitzpatrick who will start on Sunday. And now a new quarterback has been added to the roster at the expense of another.
Buffalo signed quarterback Brian Brohm Thursday as the club signed him off the Green Bay practice squad. Brohm passed a physical at One Bills Drive Thursday morning. To make room for Brohm on the roster, the Bills waived popular third-string signal caller Gibran Hamdan.
Brohm (6'3" 223), who the Packers tried to sign to their active roster upon learning of Buffalo's interest, chose to sign with the Bills even though Green Bay reportedly matched Buffalo's contract offer.
A second-year quarterback, Brohm is a former second-round pick of the Packers, but was unable to make the roster this past summer as Green Bay elected to keep just two quarterbacks on their 53-man squad. He was later signed to their practice squad.
In his rookie season Brohm was inactive as the team's third quarterback for all 16 games.
Brohm is the second player this season to be signed off Green Bay's practice squad. The Bills also signed offensive tackle Jamon Meredith back in late September.
Hamdan waivedHamdan's release ends the quarterback's three-year stint with Buffalo. He was originally signed to the Bills practice squad early in the 2007 season and was promoted to the active roster in Week 7 of that same year.
He's been on the 53-man roster since then serving as the team's third quarterback. Hamdan never saw game action with the Bills in the regular season.
