After some long hours the past couple of days negotiations between the Bills and second-round pick Andy Levitre came to a final accord as the offensive lineman signed with the club late Sunday.
Levitre is the fifth of Buffalo's eight draft picks to sign his rookie contract and is expected to be on the field for the team's first pads practice on Monday.
The Oregon State product is going to compete for a starting job at the left guard position on Buffalo's revamped offensive line. Levitre comes in determined to prove he's ready to start in the NFL.
"That's my goal," said Levitre. "I'm not coming in here to be a backup. I'll definitely come out and compete with these guys. I know there are some great players here, but I'm going to play my best and if I get the starting job that's it."
Levitre will be competing primarily with veteran Kirk Chambers, who is making a transition of his own as he's predominantly been a tackle the past two seasons for Buffalo.
Prior to Levitre's signing left tackle Langston Walker was hopeful the rookie would arrive at camp soon.
"It's been tough not having them here because you're not able to work with them," said Walker of Levitre and the still unsigned Eric Wood. "We'd like to have them for as many snaps as possible."
With Levitre to arrive at camp, it's expected that Chambers and Levitre will rotate with the starting unit much the way they did during the spring, until a starter is chosen by the coaching staff.
Buffalo still has their top three draft picks left to sign in second-round pick Jairus Byrd and their two first-round picks Aaron Maybin and Wood.
