Glenn, Matthews put together good weeksNeither of them are locks to start on Sunday against Tampa Bay, but OT Cordy Glenn and WR Jordan Matthews have both participated in practice all week in some capacity. That gives them a good chance to be in the lineup to some degree this weekend.
Glenn has been practicing fully all week for the first time in a while and even has a chance to start according to head coach Sean McDermott.
"He does," said McDermott of Glenn's potential to be in the lineup Sunday. "We'll see whether he starts or not. We'll still going through that as a staff. We'll know a little bit more (Friday) at practice. He's had a good week so far."
Matthews isn't quite as far along as Glenn, but has practiced on a limited basis both Wednesday and Thursday and is practicing again here on Friday.
McDermott sounded more cautiously optimistic on Matthews' status.
"Still day to day right now," he said of Matthews. "We're going to see how he does in practice today and go from there."
Clay recovering wellBills TE Charles Clay is on the mend. About a week and a half removed from knee surgery, the tight end remains on the active roster. Coach McDermott confirmed there is an anticipation that they'll have him back healthy in due time.
"He could come back," said McDermott. "So far he's progressing well. He's still week to week. We'll continue to evaluate both Charles and Ramon (Humber). But very encouraged at this point in the process with how much progress Charles has made."
Humber is still recovering from thumb surgery for an injury sustained in Week 4 at Atlanta.
Right guard an ongoing battleIt appeared through the first four weeks of the season that John Miller had established himself as the starting right guard after he made four consecutive starts. But with the run game not producing, the offensive staff chose to insert veteran Vladimir Ducasse into the lineup in Miller's place at Cincinnati in Week 5.
Heading into this weekend's contest, coach McDermott likely knows who his starting right guard will be, but probably doesn't want to make that public for a competitive edge on Tampa Bay.
"Nothing more to update," McDermott said when asked who is starting at right guard against Tampa Bay. "We're going to look at that at practice."
In explaining why the move to Ducasse was made in Week 5, McDermott indicated it was an effort to determine whether a better combination up front could be achieved.
"(We were) taking a look and seeing who our best five are," he said. "John (Miller) really did some good things. I would also add that the way John has handled this as a professional has been outstanding. I really appreciate that. We're looking to take another look at that this week. Those two have battled it out. The fact that they understand that things are earned goes a long way toward building our team."
