1. Sean McDermott announced that starters will play in the Week 17 finale
Not every single starter on offense and defense will take the field to start the game on Sunday, but most of Buffalo's top 11 on offense and defense will square off against the Jets this weekend in the team's regular season finale.
"We talked to the team and we're going to play a majority of the guys and they're going to practice this week and they're going to play," said head coach Sean McDermott. "To go into detail will take some time, but the majority of guys will play, not all of them. Josh (Allen) will play."
Coach McDermott knew there would be debate about the merits of playing starters in a game that cannot impact one way or the other their playoff seeding with Buffalo locked into the top Wild Card seed.
"It's about where we are as a team," he said. "There are a lot of different ways you can go about it. Where we are with this team, this year and where we're trying to go, we feel like this is the right thing for this team, this year in this situation. We feel we have work to do and we're going to continue to work this week to put our team in the best position possible moving forward.
"They're not all going to play the same amount in the game. We're going to be smart with that, but it's important that we get work in fundamentally and in terms of execution and we stay as sharp as can be."
2. Matt Barkley likely to play too
Knowing that all the starters are unlikely to play in Sunday's game against the Jets from start to finish, coach McDermott was asked if Matt Barkley could play at some point in the Week 17 matchup with New York.
"Yeah, he could (play)," said McDermott. "Yes."
Barkley made his only start against the Jets last season in Week 11 and led the Bills to a 41-10 victory at New York.
He went 15-25 passing for 232 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the lopsided win.
3. Injury update
Buffalo had a few more names on their injury report coming out of their game last weekend at New England.
Shaq Lawson, Mitch Morse and Andre Roberts joined Ty Nsekhe on the injury report on Monday.
Coach McDermott provided an update on those players prior to practice Tuesday.
"Mitch will return to practice," said McDermott. "Nsekhe, Shaq Lawson and Andre Roberts will all be out of practice today."
Morse left Saturday's game late in the fourth quarter with an undisclosed injury and did not return.
