👨‍🍳1. First strike
After both offenses went three-and-out on their first drives of the game, the Bills offense was set up with great field position for their second drive of the game, starting at the Texans' 49-yard line.
Over the next 10 plays, running back James Cook got going catching a 24-yard pass from Allen and rushing for 25 yards on five carries. The 24-yard reception was Cook's ninth 20+ receiving play since 2023.
After the offense was slowed down in the red zone, they settled for a K Tyler Bass 38-yard field goal that gave them the first score of the game, bringing the early score to 3-0.
🚀2. A response from Houston
The Texans next two drives resulted in two touchdowns, giving them a 14-3 lead after the first quarter.
Texans QB C.J. Stroud and the Texans offense started moving the ball down the field on their second drive, moving 70 yards in six plays into the end zone. Texans RB Cam Akers scored from 15 yards for the rushing touchdown.
After a Bills three-and-out, the Texans got the ball back and in a single play, Stroud delivered a 67-yard touchdown pass to WR Nico Collins who ran untouched into the end zone. The 67-yard reception was the longest the Bills have allowed this season.
This was the first time the Bills have trailed by double-digits in back-to-back regular season games since Weeks 5-7 of 2020 (3 straight).

🥚3. Bills held scoreless second quarter, Texans score late
Neither offense was able to generate points through much of the second quarter. The Bills offense struggled to get much going on their three second quarter drives, punting on all three consecutive drives.
The Texans had an opportunity to score on their first drive of the second quarter, but were stopped deep in Buffalo territory on a fourth down run to RB Dare Ogunbowale that LB Terrel Bernard and DB Cam Lewis combined for the tackle.
On their final drive of the half after a P Sam Martin punt, with 30 seconds left in the half, Stroud drove the Texans to the Bills' 32-yard line that led to a K Ka'imi Fairbairn 50-yard field goal, bringing the second quarter to a close with a 17-3 lead.
This was the first time the Bills have trailed by double-digits at halftime in back-to-back games with Allen starting at QB in both.
đź‘Ł4. Finding their footing
The Texans scored a field goal on their first drive of the second half and Buffalo responded immediately.
On the ensuing drive, RB Ty Johnson got things going with a 19-yard rush. The run game continued to roll as Allen scrambled up the middle for seven yards and drew an unnecessary roughness flag on S Jalen Pitre, giving the offense an additional 15 yards, getting the offense into Houston territory. A catch by TE Dalton Kincaid brought the offense to the Texans 5-yard line and Cook hit pay dirt, scoring the first touchdown of the day for the Bills. With the touchdown, Cook became the first Bill to rush for four touchdowns in the first five games of the season since Fred Jackson in 2013.
🧗‍♂️5. Climbing back
The Bills defense continued their strong day, forcing the Texans to punt after a three-and-out in the middle of the third quarter.
A few plays later on fourth down-and-five, the offense opted to stay on the field on the Texans' 49-yard line. The aggressive play call paid off, as rookie WR Keon Coleman scored on a 49-yard touchdown catch-and-run down the sideline shrinking the Texans lead back to only three points.
đź‘”6. Tie ball game
After trading punts in the fourth quarter, the Bills defense got to work, forcing two turnovers on the Texans offense. Bernard intercepted Stroud, but the offense had to punt once again. After the punt, DE Dawuane Smoot forced a fumble on Stroud that LB Dorian Williams recovered giving the offense the ball at the Texans' 15-yard line.
Allen, who left the game momentarily, came back into the game, but threw two incompletions that led to a Bass field goal, tying the game at 20-20.
đź’”7. End game
The Texans pinned the Bills offense deep in their own territory with less than a minute left in the game. The Bills were not able to generate anything on offense and punted the ball away to the Texans. The Texans used their remainiing timeouts and were able to run the clock down to two-seconds left on the clock to kick the game-winning 59-yard field goal.
