Safety Micah Hyde said his goal was to leave an impact and that he did. The 12-year veteran said thank you to the Buffalo community as he posted the following message on Instagram.
So much LOVE and way too many THANKS! From Fostoria to Iowa City to Green Bay to Buffalo, the goal was to leave an impact. That was one helluva dream. On to the next. MH

Hyde was one of the first players to arrive in Buffalo once Sean McDermott became Buffalo's head coach in 2017. The safety had eight unforgettable years with the Bills, and during that time became one of Buffalo's most important voices in the locker room.
The University of Iowa product was also a team captain for Buffalo in 2021, 2022 and 2023. The safety was a vocal leader and one that led by example. He deserves a lot of credit for helping create an incredible culture in Buffalo that's known across the league.
Hyde spent the majority of the 2024 season as a free agent and was signed to Buffalo's practice squad in December. The safety was brought back for his leadership and ability to help with younger players.
"Who better than Micah Hyde to have in your building," Bills general manager Brandon Beane said of bringing Hyde back. "The most positive guy, team first and selfless...I said Micah, 'What about you just coming in here, being on practice squad and just pouring into the group?' We know what we expect, you know what our locker room is. Everyone would welcome him with open arms. To see the smiles on the faces when he came back in here."
"We've always connected with this place," Hyde said once he came back to Buffalo in December. "To see the reaction that people have with us signing back here is truly amazing. I think it's an indication to how my family, the foundation (Imagine for Youth), everything has given back to this community, and we'll continue to do that."
It's hard to mention Hyde and his on-field expertise without mentioning his former teammate, Jordan Poyer. Over time, the two became known as one of the best safety tandems in the NFL during their seven years together and will go down as one of the best in franchise history. The two accounted for 38 interceptions from 2017-2023. That's an average of 5.4 interceptions per season between the two ball hawks.
"I just feel so indebted to those guys coming in seven years ago," McDermott said in 2023. "And the work that they've done, the work that they put in that nobody sees, even I don't see sometimes. How important this team, this organization, is to them…they've just done a fabulous job. If I knew then that they would go on to do what they've done over those seven years, we hit the lottery a little bit right there."
"They've been the constant here for the last seven years," Allen said last season. "They work extremely hard, they care so much about not just this game, but this team, this community here in Buffalo. It's awesome to be a part of a team that they're on because it really motivates you."
During his time in Buffalo, Hyde started and played in 95 games. The safety racked up 16 interceptions, one returned for a touchdown, 42 passes defensed, three forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, 10 tackles for loss, four quarterback hits and 417 total tackles.
The Fostoria native earned Pro Bowl honors in 2017 and was named a second-team All-Pro in 2017 and 2021. In 2017, Hyde totaled five interceptions, 13 passes defensed, two tackles for loss and 82 total tackles.
The former Pro Bowler started his career with the Packers and was a fifth-round pick from the 2013 NFL Draft. Hyde played for the Packers from 2013-2016 before signing with Buffalo as a free agent in 2017.
Over his career, Hyde started in 128 games and played in 158. He recorded 24 interceptions, 66 passes defensed, 18 tackles for loss, five forced fumbles, eight fumble recoveries, eight quarterback hits, one touchdown and 644 total tackles. He also started in 13 playoff games and played in 17 and totaled two interceptions, nine passes defensed, two tackles for loss, one forced fumble, two quarterback hits and 68 total tackles.
Hyde's legacy extends far beyond his impact on the field. He wasn't just one of Buffalo's best leaders, a foundational player in the first years of the McDermott era and a part of one of the best safety tandems in the NFL, Hyde is also a difference maker in the community.
The safety has his own foundation, Imagine for Youth, which started in 2015 with a mission to empower the youth and help them achieve a healthy, active and educated life. Hyde and his family have held a countless number of events in Buffalo and back home in Ohio ranging from charity softball games to backpack drives to Kicks for Kids and more.
Hyde's biggest charity event is his annual softball game, which he will host for the fifth time on Sunday, May 4 at Sahlen Field. Tickets for this year's game go on sale on Tuesday, February 4 The safety has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars through the event benefitting the Imagine for Youth foundation.
Hyde leaves big shoes to fill in Buffalo. From his character and heart to his play on the field, it will be hard to replace what Hyde meant to the Bills and to Buffalo. The impact he had on Western New York will be felt many years.
