Buffalo's newest linebacker finally made it official as Reggie Torbor signed his contract with the Bills on Monday morning at One Bills Drive. The six-year veteran agreed to terms over the weekend.
Torbor, who was released just last week by the Miami Dolphins, considers himself fortunate to find a fit like the one he now has in Buffalo.
"You never want to be out there this late once rosters are filled, but I just think this is the perfect spot for me in every way you can imagine," Torbor told Buffalobills.com. "So I think it's good for me and my family."
Torbor comes to the Bills familiar with the club's defensive coordinator George Edwards, who coached him the last two seasons in Miami. There also is some carry over from the 3-4 scheme he played in for the Dolphins to the one he walks into here in Buffalo.
"I'm coming from a 3-4 and basically everything I know about a 3-4 George taught me," said Torbor. "So I think that's really going to help me, especially since I'm missed so much to this point."
Edwards will be laying out his plans for Torbor in a one-on-one meeting with the linebacker Monday at One Bills Drive, so Torbor knows where he'll be lining up in Buffalo's defense at least to start. Torbor has experience at both the inside and outside linebacker position.
"I really think it benefits me and the team," said Torbor of his versatility. "You never know what can happen. Seasons are long so by me being able to do both I think it's mutually beneficial, so it's a good thing."
Torbor is also glad that Buffalo will make for an easy transition for his family. With a wife and two young sons he's glad that he has some friends with families of their own on Buffalo's roster in Spencer Johnson and Kawika Mitchell.
"I'm not a single guy looking for a job," said Torbor. "There are different things you have to take into account. My young boys are starting school, so having Spencer's wife and Kawika's wife giving a good plug for the schools up here was a big thing for me."
The linebacker confirmed that he will be on the practice field on Tuesday for the start of week three of OTAs, and Buffalobills.com will have exclusive coverage of his first action on the practice field. The Bills OTA practice Tuesday is scheduled for 12:05 pm.
