Every summer leading up to training camp Buffalobills.com asks 25 of the most pressing questions facing the team as they make their final preparations for the upcoming regular season. With Year 3 under head coach Chan Gailey and veteran player report day at St. John Fisher fast approaching, here is the latest daily installment as we closely examine some of the answers the Buffalo Bills have to come up with between July 24th and Sept. 9th.
Every year there are some surprise talents that emerge at Bills training camp. Entering the third season under Chan Gailey however, the team has advanced to the point where it's less likely that an under the radar type player could impress and make the roster.
There are a lot fewer holes than there used to be as Buddy Nix and his personnel department have capably stocked the roster with legitimate talent. With that in mind we take a look at both the lesser known talent that could surprise as well as recognized talent on Buffalo's roster that could have a larger role than anticipated.
Kamar Aiken –Though he was unable to follow the path of David Nelson and Donald Jones in 2011 as an undrafted rookie that made the roster, Aiken's efforts last summer were good enough to earn him a practice squad spot. With good size (6'2" 213) and more polished route running Aiken could push for the last receiver spot.
Nigel Bradham –The fourth-round pick was sprinkled in with the first team defense on days when Nick Barnett and Kirk Morrison were not participating in spring practices. He also showed respectable cover ability at linebacker for a rookie. He still has a lot to learn, but is going to keep the vets in front of him on the depth chart honest.
Kevin Brock –A late add last season when injuries struck at tight end, Brock has good athleticism for his size (6'5" 249). He seems to glide in his route running and is a willing blocker, but with a locked in starter and solid blocker as the number two the tight end position is short on opportunity.
Tank Carder –A throwback, lunch pail type player, Carder comes across as a player that just going to find a place to fit and contribute. It might just be on special teams as a rookie, but he made himself noticed on the practice field in the spring.
Tashard Choice –He was a late season signee last year and seen as not much more than a sub for an injured Fred Jackson. But with a solid spring and good history with Chan Gailey's offensive staff, Choice could lock down the third running back spot.
Dorin Dickerson –The H-back could serve as an intriguing option to the offense. Buffalo hasn't had a player with his skill set the last few years. A strong camp could land him a unique role in the Bills passing attack.
Isaiah Green –Signed late in the offseason, Green made some plays in the spring practices and showed an ability to run with receivers. If he can continue that kind of play in opportunities against first and second teamers in training camp he could merit more consideration.
Arthur Moats –Now in his third season Moats is learning multiple linebacker roles and showed significant improvement in his cover skills in the spring. With a strong training camp he could put pressure on veteran Kirk Morrison for significant time on the field.
