The Bills (1-1) won their first game of the preseason over the Steelers (0-2) in a defensive battle 9-3.

QB Mitchell Trubisky led the offense, passing for 86 total yards, completing nine of 13 passes. RB Ray Davis led all running backs with 58 yards on the ground. LB Joe Andreessen led all defensive players with 12 total tackles.

Inactives included QB Josh Allen, S Damar Hamlin, S Mike Edwards, S Cole Bishop, LB Terrel Bernard, EDGE Von Miller, LB Nick Morrow, DE Casey Toohill, WR Lawrence Keys III, WR Curtis Samuel, and OL Travis Clayton.

Allen was scheduled to start, but did not play in the game due to weather conditions. Trubisky started in place of Allen.

EDGE Greg Rousseau and the Bills defense stifled the Steelers offense early, forcing two straight three-and-outs and a short five-play drive. Rousseau ended two of the three drives with a sack.

The Bills offense struggled to get anything going, punting on their first three drives, none of which lasted more than seven plays.

DaQuan Hardy gave the offense great field position on their fourth drive of the game, taking a return 31 yards. Trubisky started the game completing all seven of his passes, but then threw an incompletion and interception to Miles Killebrew.

Following the interception, the defense was able to hold the Steelers offense to a field goal attempt that Chris Boswell missed wide left. Trubisky and the offense then got to work, driving down the field to score the first points of the game from a Tyler Bass field goal.

Trubisky found TE Quintin Morris for 17 yards and Zach Davidson for 27 yards to bring them into the red zone. Newly signed QB Ben DiNucci took over for Trubisky following that drive.

The Steelers and Justin Fields responded with a field goal of their own right before half.

RB Ray Davis had a heavy load starting the second half, receiving six straight carries for 49 yards and drawing a horse collar tackle. The drive stalled in the red zone, and Bass chipped in another field goal, bringing the score to 6-3.

The Steelers responded by marching down the field into the red zone on a 14-play drive. Buffalo native LB Joe Andreessen and DB Ja'Marcus Ingram put a stop to the drive on a fourth down stand at the Bills 9-yard line, pushing Fields back 7-yards.

Continuing with the ground and pound approach in the second half, RB Frank Gore Jr. had a strong showing taking his first five carries for 30 yards. Gore ended the day with total yards. Bass punched in another field goal to end the drive in the fourth quarter to bring the lead to 9-3.

The Steelers tried to muster up one final drive, but EDGE Rondell Bothroyd had other plans, tackling La'Mical Perine for a loss and forcing a fourth down. On fourth down, Edge Kingsley Johnathan rushed Fields and forced an incomplete pass to Connor Heyward with DB Te'Cory Couch in coverage.

Jonathan helped put the game away, sacking Fields on the Steelers final drive of the game. The defense was then able to force three straight incomplete passes to end the Steelers' hopes.

The Bills will head back to Orchard Park for their final preseason game against the Panthers on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. EDT.
