NBC Sports' Peter King recognized Sam Martin as a special teams player of the week after punting for a total of 161 yards in windy conditions against the Chicago Bears on Christmas Eve.
"For one punt, really: Late in the second quarter in Antarctica (aka Soldier Field) in minus-6 wind chill, with a 20-mph crosswind in front of him, Martin lined up with his feet in the back of his end zone, ball on the Buffalo four-yard line. He boomed a 46-yard punt to midfield. What a display. He averaged 53.7 yards on three boots—long of 62." – King
Head coach Sean McDermott also praised Martin's performance, as well as the special teams unit's as a whole.
"The kicking game, I thought they got the better part of it early in the game there in the first half," McDermott said. "And then the second half, our guys really were able to reset and came up with some big plays for us, which is all part of the ebb and flow of a game. So the mental toughness those guys showed and working together."
