Fred Jackson signs extension with Bills

A Bills fan favorite was set to enter the last year of his contract in 2014, but that all changed on Wednesday. Buffalo signed veteran RB Fred Jackson to a contract extension, which will keep him under contract with the club beyond this season.

"I'm extremely excited," said Jackson. "I want to thank Russ [Brandon], Doug [Whaley], the late, great Mr. Wilson for the opportunity to be able to play here. Every player's dream is to be able to play with one team for their entire career, and this extension gives me the opportunity to do that."

Jackson signed the new agreement just prior to the team's afternoon training camp practice at St. John Fisher. The 33-year old is coming off a season in which he posted a career-high nine rushing touchdowns and led the team with 10 total scores. His 1,277 all-purpose yards was the third highest single-season total of his career. Jackson also pulled in a single-season career best 47 receptions.

"I just love to play this game," he said. "Usually when guys get to be my age they're just about ready to kind of shut it down and not come out here and get beat up like we do at training camp, but I wake up every day and I love it. I'm blessed to have an opportunity to play for a team like the Buffalo Bills and I try to take advantage of that whenever I can.

"I think the number one thing that keeps me motivated is the love for this game and I don't want that to end anytime soon, so I'm going to come out here and continue to work and show that I can continue to compete at a high level."

A team co-captain, Jackson did all of that while playing through a knee injury for most of the 2013 campaign. Entering the 2014 season however, he feels as good as ever.

"Better than I have in a long time, that's the number one thing I was talking to my agent about," Jackson said. "I was telling him I haven't felt this good in a long time. So, hopefully I can continue to feel like that and get into this season and make some plays for our team, that way it's all worth it, them giving me this extension."

With the help of Jackson's production Buffalo ranked second in the league in rushing and first in total rushes. The veteran back said it's his hope to play three or four more seasons before calling it a career.

From Division III to the NFL, Fred Jackson has seen it all in his football career. Congrats on a remarkable career.
