The Bills drafted wide receiver Isaiah Hodgins from Oregon State in the sixth round with the 207th pick. Hodgins, 23, produced 2,322 receiving yards in three seasons at Oregon State. His 20 touchdowns rank second all-time in school history.
He is a native of Walnut Creek, CA and stands 6-3 and 201 pounds.
1. CHAMPIONSHIP BLOODLINES
Hodgins father, James Hodgins, played eight years in the NFL as a fullback. He was a key blocking back for Marshall Faulk on the Rams championship team in 1999. He also played the Cardinals and the Jets.
When James Hodgins played college football at San Jose State, he asked to be excused from practice to be with his wife, who was giving birth to Isaiah. San Jose Coach Dave Baldwin okayed the absence.
Twenty years later, Baldwin was coaching tight ends and wide receivers at Oregon State. His top player – Isaiah Hodgins.
Another Hodgins, James' brother Isaac, plays defensive end at Oregon State.
2. "OUTSTANDING BALL SKILLS"
Every scouting report on Isaiah Hodgins makes note of his great hands. In his college career, he was targeted 156 times and only had three drops. He was targeted in the red zone 12 times for Oregon State last year and scored nine touchdowns on those targets.
He finished his college career with 20 touchdowns, four behind the school's all-time leader, Houston Texans wide receiver Brandin Cooks.
3. BEAVERS ON THE BILLS
Isaiah jones Bills safety Jordan Poyer as a product of the OSU Beavers program in Corvallis. There have been some notable players on Buffalo's roster from the school, including guard Andy Levitre, a Bills draft pick in 2009, linebacker Keith Ellison, a Bills pick in 2006, and Bill "Earthquake" Enyart, whom the Bills drafted in the second round in 1969. In the first round, Buffalo's pick was O.J. Simpson, who was expected to thrive with Enyart as his fullback. Enyart only lasted two years in Buffalo.
