At each home game during the 2017 season, the Buffalo Bills will honor a military member during the game's third quarter break presented by BENRUS, a legendary brand with rich military history. Petty Officer 3rd Class Danielle Nichols was honored at the Week 8 game against the Raiders.
Petty Officer 3rd Class Nichols, has always had a passion for flying. Though too short to be a flight attendant, she found a way to fulfill her passion for navigating the skies by joining the Coast Guard as an Aviation Maintenance Technician. Throughout her five years in service, Petty Officer 3rd Class Nichols served our country proud, flying as a Dropmaster on the HU-25 Falcon Jet. She also participated in many search and rescue and drug interdiction missions, including one when Hurricane Katrina struck.
During her time in the Coast Guard, Petty Officer 3rd Class Nichols met her husband, who was also an Aviation Maintenance Technician. Sadly, while serving, her husband passed away in a helicopter crash in Hawaii. Honoring his memory each day, Petty Officer 3rd Class Nichols was humbled to stand before a packed crowd on game day.
"I'm very nervous," stated Petty Officer 3rd Class Danielle Nichols prior to walking on the field.
As soon as she took the field alongside her nine-year-old son, the nerves subsided and the crowd erupted into applause. The entire stadium stood, cheering as loud as possible for both her and her husband.
The entire experience was one-of-a-kind for Petty Officer 3rd Class Nichols.
"I'm just a normal person, there are other people that do a lot more than I do, but I appreciate it a lot," stated Petty Officer 3rd Class Nichols.
