ORCHARD PARK, NY - The Buffalo Bills and Time Warner Cable announced that 28 high school students have been selected for the 2008-09 Buffalo Bills Time Warner Cable Student Leaders program.
The program, designed to provide students with unique experiences that will develop leadership skills in preparation for their continuing education, is open to students who will be juniors or seniors as of September 2008.
During the months of April and May interested students completed an application that included an essay. The essay topic asked the candidates to describe a situation in which they have demonstrated leadership. Finalists were then interviewed during the month of June.
As part of the program, the Buffalo Bills and Time Warner Cable will be hosting monthly meetings with the selected students from August through February. At these meetings the Student Leaders will learn about a variety of careers and meet professionals within local business and community organizations. The Student Leaders will also have the opportunity to volunteer at Buffalo Bills home games, work with different community groups, assist various Buffalo Bills departments and serve as Buffalo Bills / Time Warner Cable ambassadors at their school.
"We are excited to announce this deserving class of Buffalo Bills Time Warner Student Leaders," stated Gretchen Geitter, Bills vice president of community relations. "We are pleased to partner with Time Warner Cable on this important initiative that provides leadership guidance for the future leaders of tomorrow."
"Time Warner Cable supports education in our community through various donations and partnerships. Working with the Bills on the Student Leader program not only provides high school students with a view of how a professional football team is run but also instills a true sense of the importance of volunteerism in our community. When these students leave the program they are empowered to make a real contribution and become true leaders," said Robin L. Wolfgang, Buffalo Division Vice President of Public and Government Affairs, Time Warner Cable.
