Former Buffalo Bills receiver Peerless Price will be the Legend of the Game for Buffalo's game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Nov. 17.
"It means the world," Price said. "It's such an honor. When you set out playing athletics, you just want to play as a kid, and then as you get into it, and you start making plays and doing other things. It's good to be recognized for what you do on the field, how you play, how you treat people, treat teammates, and so it was definitely an honor even to be considered to be a legend of the Buffalo Bills community."
Price is looking forward to the electric atmosphere that he knows Bills Mafia will provide for this pivotal game.
"It's amazing, because we've had some great years here lately," Price said. "It's electric, to be honest with you, no matter what the record is, no matter what you're playing for, they're going to show up and show out."
He added that even though he lives in Atlanta, he is a Bills Mafia member for life because the fans treated him so well in his time playing for the Bills. He also likes what he sees from the Bills who are 8-2 so far on the season.
"I think they got what it takes to win it all," Price said. "I'm a Bills Mafia guy. Everything on my social media #BillsMafia, and that's just because the way they treated me, I had the best years of my NFL career in Buffalo, and the fans were all love, and it ain't nothing but love."
Price, who was drafted in the second round of the 1999 NFL Draft, played for the Bills in two different stints from 1999-2022 and 2006-2007. In his time with the Bills, he caught 288 passes, 3,772 yards and 25 touchdowns.
He made his debut with the Bills in their 1999 regular season opener against the Indianapolis Colts where he made three catches for 51 yards.
"I remember the Buffalo years vividly," Price said. "I break it down into coming in as a pup, growing up there in the in the city of Buffalo, and becoming a man in the city of Buffalo, because I started there and ended there."
Price was placed on IR during the 2007 regular season and had surgery. After deciding to retire from football, Price began coaching his daughter's basketball team because they did not have a coach. From there he started his own AAU team that has grown to five teams now. He said that he enjoys coaching them because they are able to learn life lessons that can carry them beyond their sport.
"I had to do it," Price said. "I took a leap of faith… I think these girls, first of all, they need a little more life lessons in it… There's so many life lessons you can take from sports. … I feel like what I gave those girls was much bigger than basketball."
Price is the father of two girls, Caeden and Kai. Caeden played Division I soccer at Coastal Carolina and his younger daughter Kai committed to play soccer at Florida State at signing day on Nov. 13. Kai also plays on the U.S. National team and attended the U-19 camp at the end of October.
"To say I'm proud, is an understatement of both of them," Price said of his daughters.
Price will join Bills Mafia in rooting on the Bills as they take on the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday at 4:25 p.m.
