Head coach Sean McDermott announced Thursday that the Bills' starters, including QB Josh Allen, will play "roughly a quarter" in Saturday's home preseason game against the Chicago Bears.
"It's getting them ramped up and ready to go for the season. It's an important step," McDermott said before Thursday's training camp practice. "Hard to simulate the speed of the game. And so getting through that in preseason is important."
Buffalo opens its preseason schedule in Orchard Park and McDermott is eager to see the energy his team brings playing in front of a home crowd.
"We look forward to finishing camp in today's practice the right way but also getting in front of our fans at home come this Saturday," he said.
The Bills are still dealing with injuries at various positions as they wrap up camp in Rochester.
The following players will either not practice Thursday or are in the process of being evaluated: S Mike Edwards, S Cole Bishop, LB Nick Morrow, WR Chase Claypool, OL Travis Clayton, RB Ty Johnson, LB Eddie Ulofoshio, WR Justin Shorter, DT DaQuan Jones, DT Casey Toohill, WR Mack Hollins and WR KJ Hamler.
According to McDermott, Toohill, Hollins and Hamler all had injuries pop up following Wednesday's practice; Jones is missing his second straight practice with a groin injury and is day-to-day.
"All of those will not practice today and then the majority of those will not play in the game. We'll see on Mack in this situation. The same with KJ as it relates to the game," McDermott said.
