The Bills held their last practice of the week at One Bills Drive, before they travel to Pittsburgh for their joint practice against the Steelers on Thursday.
Here's what we learned from Tuesday's practice.
DiNucci's journey from the golf course to Buffalo
After suffering a neck injury during Saturday's preseason game against the Bears, backup QB Shane Buechele was placed on IR.
In response to the quarterback injury, the Bills signed QB Ben DiNucci. DiNucci will have some catching up to do with the offense in order to play against Pittsburgh on Saturday, but Brady is confident with their QB room that they'll be able to catch him up.
"Fortunately, we got a lot of guys in the QB room, a lot of coaches with familiarity with the systems that he's been around," OC Joe Brady said. "I might be calling a play in our terminology and calling it in the terminology that he's been a part of. We'll find a way to [say] 'hey, these are the plays you'll have' just to be able to go out there and execute, to let him play his best football."
DiNucci last played in an NFL regular season game in 2020 for the Dallas Cowboys and spent the 2023 season on the Denver Broncos practice squad. DiNucci also played in the XFL for the Seattle Sea Dragons in the 2023 season.
"The fact that I'm able to come out here, I was golfing Sunday morning, and then all of a sudden, Bills call me and I'm here, you know, 24 hours later," DiNucci said. "So, very appreciative, very grateful. I don't take this lightly, right? There's three guys on every team right now. So there's 96 guys in the world who get to say this is their job. So I'm really excited for myself, to go show other guys what I can do."
Although DiNucci was not familiar with the Bills team as a whole, several of his past teammates have welcomed him, and the quarterback room has helped him try to get up to speed.
"Josh has been extremely helpful already," DiNucci said. "Mitch, Shane, all these guys have been really helpful in trying to get me up to speed as quick as possible. So big, big help to from those guys."
In addition to Buechele's placement on IR, WR Chase Claypool was also placed on IR. Claypool had promising practices during the spring but had a toe injury that has sidelined him since late July. The Bills also waived/injured WR Bryan Thompson.
QB Mitch Trubisky returned to practice on Tuesday, after missing Monday's practice due to an excused personal absence.
In response to the injuries that have occurred, other than DiNucci, the Bills signed WR Damiere Byrd and WR Deon Cain.
"This league is all about opportunity and being able to get film during the preseason. So being able to just have another year to try to make something happen, means a lot," Byrd said.

Communication across the offense was good
Despite the result of the game, one positive takeaway that Brady took from the first preseason game was the communication among the offensive players.
"We were working on the sideline, just communication going and out of the huddle. … Being able to get in and out of the huddle to allow the quarterback to be able to ID what's happening, be able to diagnose [the play]. ... I was happy with that operation, the first time going through with it. Now we need to just all come together."
Allen, who played in two series against the Bears, also spoke about the communication on the field on Saturday and echoed that he thought it was great and that they will continue to work on it as a team.
"It was great. It's only going to continue to get better," Allen said. "We're breaking the huddle and there's a 15 second clock winding down, and they try to put as much pressure on us as possible, but it translates to the games and making sure that we're prepared for anything."
Josh Allen on upcoming joint practice with the Steelers
Later this week, the Bills will travel to Pittsburgh for a joint practice on Thursday, August 15 with the Steelers, before playing them in Week 2 of the preseason on Saturday, August 17.
Allen spoke about what he was looking forward to about the joint practices.
"… It's different players that you're going against," Allen said. "We know these guys. We've played them quite a few times the last few years. They've got one of the greatest coaches of all time, and some really special players on defense. So that's good to go up and practice against them and kind of gauge and see where you're at."
The Bills have not had a joint practice with a team since they did so with the Panthers in the 2019 season. Allen sees this as a great opportunity to get reps against another group of players to learn from as he did in 2019.
"I think getting with some of the guys on their defense and just picking their brains," Allen said. "… They got some guys on their side that I feel like I'm familiar with, that I can talk to and just kind of pick their brain. So I think that's a fun part about it."
