1 - ESPN analysts agree, Bills improved the most this offseason
With rookie minicamps over and most rosters finalized for the beginning of phase three of OTA's, a panel of ESPN NFL experts looked back at the past few months of the offseason and discussed which teams improved the most this offseason.
Kevin Seifert and Field Yates agree, the Buffalo Bills improved the most this offseason.
Seifert: Buffalo Bills. I love the depth and variety of players the Bills have assembled on both sides of the ball. They've put some really productive receivers around quarterback Josh Allen, most notably Cole Beasley and John Brown, and made a big move to add center Mitch Morse. Rookie defensive tackle Ed Oliver will enhance an already nasty defense. It all comes down to Allen. If he can make the kind of progress we normally expect from the first to second year, the Bills are a playoff team.
Yates: Buffalo Bills. They've been the team I've most focused in on this offseason throughout our variety of roundtables. General manager Brandon Beane and his staff have a clear pattern on how they want to build this roster, and I thought this offseason was productive in not just adding starters but also building competition across the roster. Between at least two new offensive line starters, two new starting wide receivers, their likely two top tight ends, backfield depth, an elite defensive line talent in Oliver and more, Buffalo made major strides.
2 - Which Bill was named a top 25 player under 25?
Pro Football Focus released its list of top 25 players under 25 on Tuesday. It is their opportunity to display the future of the NFL and acknowledge budding stars.
The list is based on cumulative body of work for each player including grades, signature stats and team impact. Buffalo's number one cornerback Tre'Davious White was selected.
White has been more than solid over the course of his two-year career so far, and he has earned a two-year coverage grade of 83.3 for his efforts. Since 2018, he's allowed just 51.9% of his targets to be caught, and he has allowed a passer rating of just 69.1 on throws into his primary coverage.
White was one of five cornerbacks named to the list along with Jacksonville's Jalen Ramsey, New Orleans' Marshon Lattimore, Cleveland's Denzel Ward and Baltimore's Marlon Humphrey.
White will be 24 years, 7 months and 21 days exactly at kickoff this year. Not counting the recent draft additions, Buffalo will have 11 players on its roster under 25 from last year. This includes starters Tremaine Edmunds, Josh Allen, Zay Jones, Matt Milano and White.
3 - Bills have a top five impact rookie class
NFL Network's Rhett Lewis and Bucky Brooks discussed which teams' 2019 NFL Draft class will have early impacts on Move the Sticks.
"I'm going to go with the Buffalo Bills. What they were able to do in the draft really says to me it sets them up to be a successful team," Brooks said. "Having Ed Oliver, a guy who can be a dominant interior player and his quickness, effort and energy is a perfect match for what coach Sean McDermott wants to do. Then Cody Ford in the second round and being able to solidify the offensive line. We have seen them add pieces around Josh Allen, but now to be able to protect him and fortify their running game the Buffalo Bills should be off and running. And don't forget about what Dawson Knox can add as well."
