News and notes from Monday media availability with the Buffalo Bills coaching staff.
Injury updates heading into Week 11 vs. Chiefs
Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott began Monday's press conference with injury updates, providing news on the status of WR Keon Coleman, WR Amari Cooper, TE Dalton Kincaid, OT Spencer Brown, FB Reggie Gilliam and LB Matt Milano.
McDermott said the team is already ruling out Coleman for Sunday's game against Kansas City due to a wrist injury. Coleman got hurt at the end of Week 9 against the Dolphins and did not play last week against the Colts.
"I'm being told by the trainers, we still feel like he is improving," McDermott said of the rookie WR. "It's just not a situation where we expect him back this week."
Cooper (wrist) and Gilliam (hip) are both "improving" after missing the last two games. McDermott said the team will monitor how they progress through the week.
Having been a limited participant in practice the last two weeks, McDermott shared that the team is keeping an eye on Cooper's "pain tolerance and threshold" when it comes to determining his playing status.
As for Kincaid, he exited Sunday's game with a knee injury. Kincaid initially left the game in the first half, returned briefly after halftime and then exited the game again. His status for Week 11 vs. the Chiefs is still unclear.
"We'll see how he fares the next couple of days," McDermott said.
Brown tweaked his ankle in Sunday's win and the team will see how he does in practice this week.
McDermott added that he doesn't believe any of the injuries to Coleman, Cooper, Kincaid, Gilliam or Brown will require going on injured reserve.
LB Matt Milano has done a 'phenomenal job' in recovery process
The Bills are opening the 21-day practice window for LB Matt Milano (bicep), who has been on IR since the beginning of the season. Milano won't be available to play this Sunday vs. the Chiefs but the Bills do expect Milano to return soon.
"He's done a phenomenal job with, along with our trainers, of getting back to where he can get back out there," McDermott said. "Really, just take it one day and one week at a time, and those guys are going to reassess towards the end of the week and see where he's at, and then what the next week may hold for him."
The Bills have a bye in Week 12, so the earliest Milano could make his season debut is on Dec. 1 at home against the 49ers. The 2022 All-Pro has missed the first 10 games with an bicep injury suffered prior to the season; he also missed the last 13 games of the 2023 season with a leg injury.
DC Bobby Babich praised Milano for how he's approached his rehab and added that he's thrilled to welcome back Milano when the time comes.
"He's been totally engaged in the team and what we're doing," Babich said. "Obviously, I have a pretty close relationship with him, having coached him for two years. And I'm just excited he gets an opportunity to get back on the field. It's been a long time coming."
