The Buffalo Bills officially enter the playoffs as the No. 2 seed in the AFC. They clinched a playoff spot back in Week 13 in their win over the San Francisco 49ers and continued their dominant run through December, shattering several NFL and team records in the process.
Now the Bills will host the No.7 seed Denver Broncos on Sunday in Highmark Stadium in what is projected to be a cold afternoon in Orchard Park. Here's what the experts are saying as the Bills enter the Wild Card round of the playoffs.
Bills quarterback Josh Allen was sighted as ESPN's main reason for hope, despite some reasons for concern, as the quarterback has had an MVP season that included the lowest sack rate, fourth-lowest interception rate and fifth lowest fumble rate among QBR-qualified quarterbacks.
"The favorite for MVP put together his best regular season to date and has historically thrived in the postseason. Allen led the Bills' offense to 12 games scoring 30 points or more this season, and Buffalo has committed only eight turnovers, tied with the 2019 Saints for the fewest in a season since 1933. 'I don't like to make comparisons; I played with Peyton Manning and Matthew Stafford. Those guys are special in their own right,' defensive end Von Miller said. 'But this year, Josh is just doing something totally different, and he's not forcing it. He's not trying too hard, he's not looking for it; it's just him.'"- Getzenberg
In Pete Prisco's NFL Playoff bracket projection, he picks the Bills to defeat the Broncos in the Wild Card round, beat the Ravens in the divisional round and beat the Chiefs in the AFC Championship round before capturing their first Super Bowl victory in franchise history over the Green Bay Packers.
"Before the season, I picked Green Bay to win it. I'm flipping. I think the MVP's gonna ride that wave all the way to win it all, and the Buffalo Bills are gonna win the Super Bowl."- Prisco
The ESPN analyst and former player believes that this game against the Broncos can see Josh Allen turn back the clock a bit and use his legs to get away from the pressure that the Denver Broncos generate.
"The turnovers have been minimized, and I think on top of that, this offensive line, they've only given up 14 sacks and that's the matchup I want to see, because the Broncos on the other side lead the NFL with six 63 sacks. I can see Josh Allen, this weekend, turning back a little bit that clock and using his legs and getting on the perimeter, and making plays with the blitz and that pressure coming. I can't wait to see the playoff form of Josh Allen this season."- McCourty
The Bills legend said that even though Von Miller plays limited snaps, that this game will start and end with Miller being the best version of himself.
"I think Von needs to be that guy in every single game, he needs to make a couple plays a quarter. So, when you have Von out there, I guarantee you, you know he's pumped up about playing his former team. Remember last year before when he got hurt? This front four was coming after the quarterback, big time. And I think if Von can have that sense of urgency for an offensive line against Denver, I think it opens it up for everybody. I'm looking for Ed Oliver to come out and have a great game, but it all starts with their front four and all starts with Von Miller."- Thomas
The play-by-play announcer believes that the hurdle for the Bills is the Divisional Round of the playoffs because if they beat the Broncos, it will be the third straight year that they play in the second round of the playoffs.
"I hate to project, but I think the hurdle for the Bills is that divisional round. If they win against Denver, it'll be the third straight year they've hosted the divisional playoff game, and they lost the previous two last year to Kansas City. Used to always say, just get them home field so they don't have to go on the road to try get to the Super Bowl. Well, they've had that home field the last two years in the divisional round and lost and next week, there looms Baltimore, a team that roughed them up early in the season, 35 to 10, I believe it was, and that's going to be some monster match up if we see it next week."- Nantz
Buscaglia knows that the play of quarterback Josh Allen will be pivotal in determining the Bills success this post season, but for players not named Josh Allen, he believes that Greg Rousseau and Matt Milano are names to watch out for.
"Considering players who could swing some matchups with their play, two come to mind — defensive end Greg Rousseau and linebacker Matt Milano. Rousseau has one of the highest ceilings on defense, and when he is winning as a pass rusher, the Bills are so much more dangerous. Their pass rush has been a big question all season, but if he wins his matchups this postseason, it will go a long way to helping that unit."- Buscaglia

If both the Ravens and the Bills were to advance past the Wild Card round, they would meet in the Divisional Round of the playoffs in a rematch of their Week 4 Sunday night football contest that the Ravens won. Buscaglia believes that this Bills team is different than they were then but the Ravens are also a different team and that this would be a premier contest on one of these teams paths to the Super Bowl.
"If the Ravens were to advance past the wild-card round, it would set up what would likely be the premier contest of the NFL divisional round between the Bills and Ravens in Buffalo. The matchup would pit the top two MVP candidates in a win-or-go-home scenario while giving the Bills a chance to avenge their worst loss of the 2024 season. Even including the Bills' Week 18 loss to the Patriots, the only time they lost by more than one score all season was to the Ravens in Week 4 — a completely lopsided affair that left the Bills searching for answers on both sides of the ball."
"The Bills are a far different team than their Week 4 showing, and they'll benefit from playing at home. But this is also a far different and more offensively potent Ravens team than the last time these franchises met in the playoffs. With the ever-impressive Todd Monken as the offensive coordinator, the Bills are unlikely to shut down the Ravens as they did in Buffalo in the divisional round four years ago when they held Jackson and his teammates to only three points. If the Bills made it to the AFC Championship Game after defeating the Ravens, no one could challenge their Super Bowl legitimacy."- Buscaglia
Chadiha picked the Bills as his number one team as most likely to win the Super Bowl, despite some lumps on defense against the Rams and the Lions.
"The Bills aren't the top seed in the AFC, but they've done two things that warrant them being first on this list: They broke Kansas City's streak of 15 straight wins, and they broke Detroit's streak of 11 consecutive victories. That's plenty of evidence to suggest Buffalo is more than ready to end decades of postseason heartache and claim the first Super Bowl win in franchise history. That's not just because quarterback Josh Allen has elevated his play and put himself in position to win his first MVP award. He has an assortment of weapons around him, both in the passing game and the running game (the Bills are the first team in history to have 30 passing touchdowns and 30 rushing touchdowns). He has a dominant offensive line, a unit that has allowed him to be sacked only 14 times this season."
Davis picked ranked the Bills as fifth behind only the Eagles, Ravens, Lions and Chiefs as the biggest Super Bowl threat. His main reasoning is that teams will have to come through Orchard Park, a place that the Bills went undefeated, to compete for their chance to advance.
"The perennial AFC East champs will be a very tough out, the squad's "everybody eats" philosophy indicative that a threat could come from anywhere, even if MVP candidate Josh Allen and RB James Cook are the primary offensive threats. They can beat you in a variety of ways, the first team in league history to post at least 30 rushing and 30 receiving touchdowns. Buffalo also led the league in turnover differential (+24) by a wide margin – that included 32 takeaways, third in the league – which tells you the Bills are more than content to embarrass you but unlikely to compromise themselves."- Davis
