Bills sign a quarterback and two wide receivers

The Bills made the following roster moves to based on some injuries at the most high-profile positions on the roster.

Buffalo signed quarterback Ben DiNucci and wide receivers Damiere Byrd and Deon Cain to one-year deals.

Quarterback Shane Buechele and wide receiver Chase Claypool were placed on injured reserve. Wide receiver Bryan Thompson was waived/injured.

DiNucci, who will wear No. 15, spent the 2023 season on the Broncos practice squad. DiNucci also played in the second season (2023) of the XFL's reboot. The former James Madison QB was selected by the Seattle Sea Dragons on November 15, 2022. DiNucci started in 10 games, helped the team get a playoff berth with a 7-3 record and led the league with 2,671 passing yards. The new Bills backup was originally drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft. DiNucci played in three games and made one start for the Cowboys. He completed 23 of 43 passing attempts for 219 passing yards in those games.

DiNucci played college football at James Madison University (2018-2019) and the University of Pittsburgh (2015-2017). He is from Pittsburgh.

Byrd will wear No. 89 and spent 2022-23 with the Atlanta Falcons. He played in 15 games and registered 13 catches for 268 yards and two touchdowns. Byrd spent his first four NFL seasons in Carolina (2015-18) before seeing action with Arizona (2019), New England (2020), Chicago (2021) and Atlanta (2022-23). He was a member of the Washington Commanders during the 2024 offseason. Byrd played collegiately at South Carolina.

Cain will wear No. 14 and was originally drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in the sixth round (No. 185) out of Clemson in 2018. He has spent time with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Baltimore Ravens and Philadelphia Eagles in his NFL career. He's played in 15 career games with six starts for 124 yards. He also played for the Birmingham Stallions in the USFL where he was named the MVP in the 2023 USFL Championship game after catching three touchdowns. Cain is a native of Tampa, FL.
