Buffalo is adding more depth at the safety position.

The Bills announced Wednesday that they are signing free agent safety Terrell Burgess to a one-year contract. Burgess, 25, last played 2023 with the Washington Commanders as a rotational player, appearing in 12 games and making one start.

With the Commanders, Burgess racked up 25 tackles and was also a key special teams player. He'll wear No. 35 with the Bills.

The addition of Burgess comes in the wake of two injuries to the Bills' secondary during training camp. Veteran Mike Edwards (hamstring) is week-to-week and rookie Cole Bishop left Tuesday's practice with an injury.

Burgess was a third-round pick by the Los Angeles Rams in the 2020 NFL Draft. In 43 career games, Burgess has recorded 43 tackles and one pass defended. He's from Oceanside, CA and played collegiately at Utah.

The Bills released UDFA punter Jack Browning as the corresponding roster move. Buffalo also signed veteran safety Kareem Jackson earlier in the week.
