It's Week 12 of the NFL season and the Bills have a big time showdown against the Eagles. After their 32-6 win last week vs. the Jets, the Bills are 6-5 on the season but still find themselves just outside of a playoff spot.
With 6 games remaining in the regular season, Buffalo still has time to make a playoff push but will need help from other teams to secure a spot.
Here's who Bills fans should be rooting for in the other NFL games on Sunday to improve Buffalo's playoff odds using the New York Times Playoff Machine.
Where the Bills stand right now
AFC Standings: 8th (Top 7 make the playoffs)
AFC East: 2nd
Current chance of reaching the playoffs: 30%
Steelers (6-4) at Bengals (5-5)
Who to root for: Root for the Bengals
Why: The Steelers currently own the third wild card spot and the Bengals are behind the Bills in the AFC standings. A Bills win + a Steelers loss would increase Buffalo's playoff chances from 30% to 48%. The Bills would move into a wild card spot entering Week 13 if both results happen.
A Bills win + a Bengals loss would only increase Buffalo's playoff odds from 30% to 42%.
If the Bills and Steelers both win, Pittsburgh would still be ahead of Buffalo in the AFC Standings.
Jaguars (7-3) at Texans (6-4)
Who to root for: Root for the Jaguars
Why: The Texans also occupy a wild card spot. A Houston loss + a Bills win would give Buffalo a wild card spot regardless of the Steelers-Bengals result. A Buffalo win + a Texans loss would increase the Bills' playoff odds from 30% to 44%.
However, if the Bills, Steelers and Texans all win, Buffalo would remain 8th in the AFC standings.
Browns (7-3) at Broncos (5-5)
Who to root for: Root for the Broncos
Why: The Browns are currently the first wild card team with the Ravens in the lead of the AFC North race. While a Bills win + a Browns loss wouldn't get Buffalo to leap Cleveland in the standings, the Bills would inch closer to the top wild card position.
A Bills win + a Browns loss would increase Buffalo's playoff odds from 30% to 46%.
The Broncos do own a head-to-head tie breaker over the Bills but would still be behind Buffalo in the AFC standings if both teams win on Sunday.
Buccaneers (4-6) at Colts (5-5)
Who to root for: Root for the Bucs
Why: The Colts have played one less game than the Bills due to their bye week and are 9th in the AFC, right behind the Bills. A Bills loss + a Colts win would means Indianapolis moves over the Bills in the standings.
A Bills win + a Colts loss would increase Buffalo's playoff odds from 30% to 44%.
Worst Case Scenario:
A Bills loss + a Steelers win + a Texans win + a Browns win + a Colts win would decrease Buffalo's playoff chances to 15%
Best Case Scenario:
A Bills win + a Bengals win + Jaguars win + a Broncos win + a Buccaneers win would increase Buffalo's playoff chances to 50%
